Owner Spotlight:John Anderson
I’m John Anderson, proud owner of Morningstar Trading in Toronto.
Today, I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
One of the most enjoyable parts of my work is receiving a new shipping container. It’s always thrilling to introduce a fresh, new stock of quality items to showcase for our customers.
I grew up and went to school in Peterborough, Ontario.
I started travelling the world fifty years ago. India quickly became my favourite place to visit!
I started Morningstar Trading several years afterward. In the beginning, I started buying handicrafts and women's’ garments to bring home for the Canadian market. Now we sell solid wood furniture and giftware sourced from Indian craftsmen.
As the owner, I open the store in the morning. I help customers on the showroom floor and manage my team. My days are filled with receiving deliveries and furniture maintenance. Once I’m in my office, I review the operations and sales from the previous day. Next, I ensure that sold items are readied for delivery. I organize my schedule between deliveries and my in-store duties. I personally deliver furniture to our client’s door. My typical work day averages between seven and eight hours.
Many of my daily decisions revolve around inventory and numbers. Taking stock of current merchandise and upcoming arrivals is key to understanding sales trends and inventory forecasting. I am also responsible for monitoring the sales and customer service performance of my staff.
I rely on my brain power, my ability to make good decisions, and maintaining a work life balance. This is how I keep Morningstar thriving. I attribute my success in business to hard work, constantly being present during business hours, and working side-by-side with my staff.
Outside of work, I love to garden, cook, and of course travel to India on my buying trips. Additionally, I am passionate about the revitalization of the Yonge Street neighbourhood in Toronto where the Morningstar store is located.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
If you, or someone you know could benefit from our unique selection of solid wood home furniture and giftware from India, I invite you to get in touch.
